The Community Property Development Corporation (CPDC), an affiliate of St. Paul AME Church, wishes to thank the members of the church for their commitment to the vision and purpose of the Gateway Health and Wellness Center. Without the cooperation and support of the church, the project could never have been completed.
To that end, we will monthly provide an update on the status of the project so that everyone can share and appreciate the work that is being done.
A. THE DOCTOR IS MOVING IN!
Dr. Mark White will be the primary care physician at the Wellness Center and is planning to begin by July 1st . Construction is moving forward under the direction of Gary Elder. Ohio Health is committed to completing the cost of the construction and has also continued to pay rent on time. Dr. White will be joined in August by a female doctor and is also working toward the addition of a dentist for the center. HALLELUJAH!
B. CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL:
We have begun negotiating with Children’s Hospital for a youth obesity program to be housed at the Wellness Center. Although we don’t have the details yet, we expect it to begin before the end of the year.
C. MARYHAVEN:
Maryhaven Alcohol, Drug & Mental Health
Services will be offering psychological services for senior citizens. A meeting is being planned to discuss this addition to the center and the details of this service will be included in the next update.
D. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE:
This economy is hitting all of us hard and the CPDC recognizes that we have a responsibility to do whatever we can to help. The CPDC has prepared a fact sheet of some of the services and resources for financial assistance this Sunday for anyone needing some help. Additionally, we are planning a series of summer workshops on financial topics to shed light on other community resources. Topics will include cash management, mortgage and foreclosure issues, car loans and leases, budgeting, etc. We will publish the schedule of workshops in the church bulletin next week.
E. FITNESS CENTER:
We are actively looking for a partner to construct a fitness center in the building. Our Health Concerns Committee, under the direction of Dr. Canise Bean, has graciously taken the lead on this. We will provide more info about this addition as we get it.
G. EXCELLENCE IN HEALTHCARE BANQUET AND HEALTHFAIR:
We are in the preliminary stages of planning the next banquet with the addition of a healthfair this September. Our theme this year will focus on Cancer. If anyone is interested in participating on the planning committee, please call the CPDC office at 614-223-0250.
H. FRIENDS OF THE GATEWAY:
If you are interested in volunteer opportunities to be an attendant at different Gateway events, please let us know. It is a great way to meet and mingle with different people that rent the Wellness Center and also help us maintain the building when we have visitors. Please contact Norzetta Bretz, Ex. Director to volunteer. 614-223-0250.
I. OPEN HOUSE DURING JAM-N-JEFFERSON PARK WEEK:
An open house for area event planners and community organizers will be held at the Gateway the week before Jam-n-Jefferson Park. More info to come.
GOD BLESS YOU FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT!
